Purpose of the role:
The Curator is responsible for the day-to-day management and oversight of the gallery. The role involves coordinating educational and artistic activities, supervising learners during art sessions, and assisting with gallery events such as the annual art competition. The Curator ensures the smooth running of gallery operations, communication with management, and support in promoting artistic growth and community engagement.
Oversee the daily operations and presentation of the gallery.
Maintain professional communication with the line manager through email and other digital correspondence.
Supervise and facilitate after-school art sessions for school children, ensuring a safe and creative learning environment.
Assist in planning, coordinating, and executing the Annual Art Competition, including liaising with participants, judges, and sponsors.
Support in organizing exhibitions, workshops, and community art projects.
Maintain attendance records and oversee proper use of art materials and gallery space.
Contribute to gallery marketing efforts, including digital updates and community outreach initiatives.
Ensure compliance with gallery policies and promote a positive visitor experience.
Qualifications:
Matric or related qualification in required field
Experience:
1–2 years of experience in administration and working with children.
Proficiency in email correspondence, Microsoft Office, and basic computer literacy required.
Prior experience in event coordination or competition planning will be advantageous.
Knowledge and Skills:
• Strong organizational and administrative skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
• Ability to work with children and young learners in a supportive and engaging manner.
• Creative, detail-oriented, and passionate about art and cultural education.
• Team player with the ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities.
• Time management and problem-solving skills.
